Who we are
Desert Roots Impact Project is a conservation-focused nonprofit dedicated to protecting endangered desert cacti through regenerative cultivation, ethical stewardship, and open-source innovation. We exist at the intersection of ecological responsibility and practical action—where preservation is achieved not through restriction, but through abundance.
Many of North America’s most sacred and slow-growing cacti are threatened by rapid development, weak conservation frameworks, and illegal harvesting driven by scarcity. Rather than waiting for policy reform or relying solely on prohibition, we apply modern technology alongside time-tested plant knowledge to create scalable alternatives that reduce pressure on wild habitats altogether.
Our work centers on Indoor Grafted Gardens—controlled, chemical-free environments where slow-growing species are grafted onto faster-growing rootstock, dramatically accelerating growth while preserving genetic integrity. Seeds from these plants are then germinated and raised indoors, producing resilient juveniles that can be reintroduced into protected outdoor environments.
By openly sharing our methods, tools, and harvesting practices, we aim to establish regenerative cultivation as a global standard. Our mission is simple and uncompromising: protect the roots, multiply the future, and ensure these plants thrive for generations to come.
